One of the most popular concerns seniors have is WHERE to take their senior photos. The location is a big piece of making sure your senior photos are unique to you and fit your personality and style. With so many location options, how do you pick the one that is best for you?
Don’t worry, I’ve got you! Part of my job as your photographer is to help with these decisions. We’ll talk more as we prepare for your session to make sure we have the perfect spot(s) for you.
Here are 5 things to consider when picking the right location for your senior photos.
1. YOU! The first thing to consider when picking locations is you!
Is there a specific location that you love? What is your absolute favorite place in the area? Maybe your family has a special spot that you visit or your family owns a beach house or mountain getaway. Maybe your own backyard is the most special place to you.

A location is perfect if it is special to YOU. So, consider the places you love as you think about a location that will be perfect for your senior photos. Be sure to share about any location you would like to consider so I can scope it out and see how it might work for your photos.
2. Your Style! The second thing to think about when choosing the right location for your senior session is your style and what you will be wearing for your senior photos.
The location needs to coordinate with the style of clothing you plan on wearing. If you’re planning on wearing a long, flowing dress, then we might consider a location that is softer, like a field or the beach. However, if you plan on wearing a leather jacket, ripped jeans and a vintage concert tee, an urban location would go better with that edgier look.

Having said all of that, I LOVE “breaking the rules” when it comes to photography so I am also cool with the long flowy dress in an urban location. Maybe your personality is soft and edgy….let’s choose a location that works for your personal style because ultimately, these photos should reflect exactly who you are!
3. Your Personality! Your senior photos are the perfect opportunity to show off who you are right now at this special time in your life so let’s make sure the location we pick suits your personality.
Are you a casual person who loves the outdoors? Then a natural, outdoorsy location, like a park or field would work great. Maybe you are bright, cheery and love color. How about a location that has a colorful background, like a graffiti wall or a park with loads of flowers would be best to help show off your unique personality.

4. Your Hobbies and Interests! Ask yourself what your favorite thing to do is.

Are you an athlete? Let’s be sure to capture you in that setting whether it is on the playing field, in the gym or at the track.
Maybe you love to ride horses. If so, a horse farm could be the perfect location for your senior photos.

Are you a dancer? Then a dance studio or a location that gives a dreamy backdrop could be a great location.
Love books? Let’s schedule a session in a cool library!

Showcasing the things you love in your senior session is important and can be a fun addition to the typical senior photos you might see.
5. Where and How You will use these images! Or more specifically what products does mom and dad plan to purchase for your home?
Choosing locations that will flow well in your Senior Album is a great way to narrow down your location options. You want the photos in your album to move seamlessly from one location to another.

And if you’re choosing wall art, you want to make sure that the colors and style of the location in the background look good hanging on the walls of your home.
Choosing a location can be overwhelming, however it’s one of my favorite pieces of planning your session. I have lots of great locations that I love to use and I can’t wait to show you all the options available in Locations Guide.
